Child drowns in Hazaribagh drain
A five-year-old boy drowned today after he fell into a drain, hidden from sight by accumulated rainwater, in Dhaka’s Hazaribagh.
The deceased was Tanzil, son of Babul Mia, a rickshaw garage owner of Hazaribagh area.
The incident took place around 2:00pm when he along with sister Tanzila, 7, was playing during rain, said sub-inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost.
They could not see the drain because of accumulated rainwater. Tanzil slipped into the drain and drowned. Later, locals rescued him and rushed to DMCH, where doctors declared him dead.
Victim’s cousin Rubel told The Daily Star that the boy drowned in the drain as he could not see it. The road was full of water which gathered after heavy rain.
