Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) today pressed supplementary charge sheet implicating 64 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League and Jubo League in a case filed over double murder during a clash in Chittagong in 2013.

Expelled BCL central committee’s Assistant Secretary Saiful Alam Limon and expelled JL leader Helal Akbar Chowdhury Babor were also among the accused in the new charge sheet.

PBI’s Inspector Mohammed Jahangir, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Nirmalendu Bikash Chawakrabarty this afternoon, reports our Chittagong staff correspondent.

The PBI also suggested dropping of the name of 16 persons from the charge sheet on various grounds.

Two persons -- a BCL man Saju Palit, 32, and eight years old child Arman alias Tutul -- were shot dead during the clash that took place between a group of BCL men led by Limon and JL men led by Babor in CRB area of the port city on June 24, 2013, over submission a tender of three works of Bangladesh Railway.

Limon is blessed by Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) mayor AJM Nasir Uddin while Babor was backed by late CCC Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury.

After the clash, police arrested 52 persons including Limon.

Later, Muhibur Rahman, sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station, filed a case against 87, including Babor and Limon, with the police station.

Twenty days after the incident, victim Saju Palit’s mother filed another case accusing four BCL men in connection with his son’s murder with the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate on July 7, 2013.

Earlier, the case was investigated by Kotwali Police Station and DB police respectively.

DB inspector Atik Ahmed Chowdhury submitted a charge sheet to a court against 62 BCL and JL men in the case on November 19, 2015.

Rejecting the charge sheet submitted by DB, the court ordered the PBI to carry out further investigation in the case.

All the accused in the case are on bail while Ajit, who “opened fire” during the clash, are on the run, said police.
