Locals today demonstrated over the alleged irregularity in the recent recruitment at Chittagong port, what has been a subject at the parliament yesterday.

Hundreds including men and women, including people who appeared for the recruitment tests, formed a human chain near Bandar Bhaban at 10:00am.

Chanting slogans and demonstrating peacefully, they allege favouritism and partisanship in the recruitment and say they want an investigation into the alleged nepotism.

Recently, 92 staffs were recruited by the Chittagong Port Authority. Among them, 90 recruits were from Madaripur, the home district of Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan.

Yesterday at the parliament, a ruling alliance lawmaker and an opposition MP criticised Shahjahan Khan over the alleged nepotism and feared of public backlash.
