LGRD Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain has blamed the ongoing city development work for the waterlogging in capital Dhaka.

Speaking at the parliament today, he said: “The ongoing development works in the city is equally responsible, if not more, for water logging along with the torrential rains.”

He also assured that there will be no more waterlogging in Dhaka in the next one or two years.

He informed the house that the government has taken a project worth Tk 1100crore to recover 33 channels paving the way to reduce and eventually eradicate the water logging problem.

Last year when it rained in Dhaka, city dwellers had to suffer for three hours in water logging, which has now reduced to two hours, and in another year, it will be completely solved, he said.

Earlier participating in the cut motion, opposition Jatiya Party lawmakers came down heavily on the minister for city’s waterlogging problem.
