A Dhaka court today ordered to attach and freeze movable and immovable properties of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission.

Judge of Senior Special Judges' Court of Dhaka KM Emrul Kayesh passed the order after hearing on a petition filed by ACC Director Md Manjur Morshed, also chief of the inquiry team.

The court asked the Inspector General of Registration (IGR) office in Dhaka to take steps to freeze Tk 10 lakh of FDR in Dhanmondi branch of City Bank.

It also ordered to attach three flats in different areas of Dhaka and three plots inside and outside of Dhaka.

Mahmud Hossain Jahangir, special public prosecutor of the ACC, told The Daily Star that the commission got the information of the illegal wealth of Mizan through its inquiry.

DIG Mizan, who is facing ACC probe over allegation of amassing wealth illegally, has recently alleged that ACC’s enquiry officer Basir took Tk 40 lakh as bribe with a false promise of exonerating him of all charges.

ACC began the probe in May last year. DIG Mizan came under the scanner in January last year when he was accused of forcibly marrying and torturing a woman. He was soon withdrawn from his post at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
