Attack on DB: Suspect killed in Dhaka ‘gunfight’
A man, who was allegedly involved with a shooting incident that left a top detective officer injured on August 12, was killed during a “gunfight” in Jurain of Dhaka early today.
The deceased was identified as Mamun, 30, Deputy Commission (west) of DB Sazzadur Rahman told The Daily Star.
Sazzadur said detectives picked up one Shantonu yesterday suspecting his involvement with the shooting incident. On August 12, Rahul Patwari, a senior assistant commissioner of DB, and two others, were shot by unknown assailants during a drive in Jurain area.
Based on information given by Shantonu, a DB team went to Jurain around 2:00am today to conduct another raid, the DC said.
Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the criminal opened fire on them, prompting them to retaliate, triggering the gunfight.
Later, a bullet-hit criminal was rescued from the spot. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 4:00 am, the DC said.
