Eskaton double murder verdict deferred
Judgment in the Eskaton double murder case filed against Bakhtiar Alam Rony, son of ruling Awami League lawmaker Pinu Khan, has been deferred.
Judge Md Al Mamun of the Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court-1 of Dhaka said he could not prepare the judgement. So, he decided to defer the judgement.
The fresh date for delivering the judgement will be announced later, the judge said.
Earlier in the morning, the lone accused, Rony, was taken to the court hajat for the judgement.
The prosecution and defence had completed their arguments and the court recorded statements of 23 prosecution witnesses.
On July 21 of 2015, detectives pressed murder charges against Rony and the court framed charges against him on March 6 of 2016.
According to the charge sheet, a drunken Rony indiscriminately fired gunshots from inside his car near the Dilu Road area of New Eskaton in Dhaka on April 13, 2015.
Rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim and auto-rickshaw driver Yakub were both injured in the incident. Hakim succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 15. Yakub also died on April 23.
Hakim's mother Monowara Begum filed the murder case on April 15, 2015.
On July 2, 2015, a Dhaka court sent Rony to jail after rejecting his bail petition.
