‘Charge sheet in Gulshan café attack any day’

Says counter-terrorism unit chief

The charge sheet into the terror attack at Holey Artisan Bakery café in Dhaka’s Gulshan will be submitted any day, Monirul Islam, chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, said today.

"The investigation is almost completed. We will submit the charge sheet any day,” Monirul said while talking to reporters at his Mintoo Road office in the capital.

The law enforcers earlier were expected to submit the report by December last year.

Earlier, Monirul claimed to have found involvement of 30-35 people in the country's worst-ever attack by terrorists. Seven of the suspects have already been arrested and four are still on the run.

Most of the “Neo JMB” leaders who planned and coordinated the attack were killed in different anti-militancy raids, Monirul added.

On July 1, 2016, five armed militants swooped on the Holey Artisan Bakery and carried out the massacre. Twenty people, mostly foreigners, and two police officials were killed in the attack.

The armed militants were killed in an army commando raid the next morning.
