Dhaka moves 10 notches down in cost of living index

Dhaka has ranked 72nd in the list of the most expensive cities across the world according to the Worldwide Cost of Living 2018 index report published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).

The city moved down by 10 places in the latest ranking published by EIU on Thursday, becoming one of the ‘biggest movers down the ranking’ as it became cheaper than what it was in the previous year.

However, Dhaka is still expensive than many other cities in the South Asia, including Bangalore, Karachi, Chennai, and New Delhi, which are among the 10 cheapest cities in the world.

Singapore remained the most expensive city in the world for the fifth consecutive year, according to the latest ranking, followed by Paris, Zurich, Hong Kong, and Oslo in the top five positions.

Damascus, the capital of war-ravaged Syria, is the cheapest city for living in the world, followed by Venezuela’s capital Caracas.  

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) published the Worldwide Cost of Living index 2018 for 133 cities across the world, based on a survey that compared more than 400 individual prices across over 150 products and services.
