Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim has assured Rajib Hossain, who lost a hand after it got stuck between two speeding buses, of giving a job in the health ministry.

“The government will bear the total cost of his treatment. Besides, I will try to manage a job for Rajib in my ministry when he gets well,” Minister Nasim said while talking to reporters after he visited Rajib at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Responding to a question about the compensation, Nasim said the owners of the two buses must maintain the High Court order asking them to bear all the treatment cost of Rajib.

About the medical bill of Tk 1.26 lakh at Samorita Hospital in a day, the minister said there is no need to be worried. The government will bear it, he added.

DMCH Director Brigadier General AKM Nasir Uddin said, “Rajib is undergoing treatment at ICU of the hospital. He is not out of danger. He also has been suffering from head injuries”.

The DMCH authorities have formed a seven-member medical board to provide better treatment to Rajib and observe his health condition, the doctor said.

Rajib, a third-year student of Government Titumir College, lost the hand after it got stuck between two speeding buses trying to overtake each other in the capital's Bangla Motor area on Tuesday.

Profusely bleeding, he was taken to Samorita Hospital in Panthapath. Later the 22-year-old was shifted to DMCH.
