DU student rape: DNA test confirms Majnu’s involvement
Investigators have confirmed the involvement of 30yr old Majnu in the rape case of a Dhaka University student following the result of a DNA test.
The sample taken from the semen on the victim’s clothing matched with Majnu’s DNA, Rumana Akhter, special superintendent of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) told The Daily Star.
The report of the DNA test, which was completed at the forensic lab of CID, was sent to the Detective Branch of Police who are investigating the case.
On January 5, the DU student was raped while she was walking from Kurmitola bus stop to a friend’s house near Shewra in the afternoon. She had just gotten off a university bus.
After regaining consciousness around 10:00pm, she somehow managed to make it to the house of her friend, who later took her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The next day, the girl’s father filed a case with Cantonment Police Station, accusing unknown people.
Rab arrested Majnu on January 8 and handed him over to DB, which is now probing the case.
Meanwhile, investigation is at the final stage and a charge sheet will be submitted after investigators get reports from the one-stop crisis centre of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
