'Ensure capital punishment for DU student rapist'
Students of Dhaka University today formed a human chain on the campus demanding capital punishment for the person who allegedly raped and tortured one of their fellows on Sunday night.
After forming the human chain, the protesters staged a sit-in in front of the Raju Sculpture at DU campus around 1:00pm, our DU correspondent reports.
During the demonstration, they demanded that the authorities concerned to ensure capital punishment for the serial rapist, Majnu, who was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) yesterday.
Ducsu member Tanvir Hasan Saikat also burned an effigy of the culprit while staging the sit-in this afternoon.
They are continuing their demonstration till last reported.
Majnu is a serial rapist and he tried to kill the DU student after raping her in the capital’s Kurmitola area on Sunday night, Rab said hours after arresting the suspect in nearby Shewra area yesterday.
The law enforcers also said Majnu, a 30-year-old drug addict, had earlier raped several female beggars and intellectually challenged women near the same place.
“Majnu is a mugger, a vagabond and a serial rapist … He raped his victims whenever he got a chance while mugging them,” Lt Col Sarwar-Bin-Quasem, Rab’s legal and media wing director, said at a press briefing at their media centre in the city.
