DU students demand dissociation from seven affiliated colleges
Students of different departments of Dhaka University (DU) yesterday demonstrated on the campus, demanding that the university dissociate itself from the seven colleges which were affiliated last year.
Around 1,000 students took part in the demonstration at the foot of Raju Memorial Sculpture complaining that “the students of those colleges are introducing themselves as students of Dhaka University”.
Therefore, the DU students are suffering from identity crisis, they added.
They also blocked the adjacent roads for two hours from 12:00pm, causing a gridlock.
Around 11:00am, the demonstrators went to the vice-chancellor to press home their demand but the VC ruled out the possibility of cutting off the affiliation, said the coordinator of the movement, Moshiur Rahman Sadik, also a student of Institute of Information and Technology.
Later, the students urged all their fellow students to avoid all academic activities today except for examinations.
