Facebook buzz: ‘Frustrated’ cop damages motorcycles

A traffic policeman has drawn widespread flak on social media for letting loose his rage and damaging about two dozens of parked motorcycles last Friday.

A video of the policeman being confronted after the incident at New Elephant Road is viral on Facebook – drawing protests and outrage.

The video claims Sergeant Al Imran sought bribe from a motorcyclist who did not have a driving license.

Noman Hossain, the video uploader, claimed that the sergeant went into a frenzy and damaged about 30-40 motorcycles parked near Chowrongi Bhaban after allegedly being denied the bribe.

Contacted, Sergeant Al Imran told The Daily Star that he “unwillingly” damaged some motorcycles. “The motorcycles were parked haphazardly. I tried to straighten them when some of the motorcycles fell down.”

He did not mention any incident relating to any bribery.

The video, posted on Saturday had over 400 shares and hundreds of comments till Monday noon, showing Sergeant Imran being confronted by the angry motorcycle owners.

Contacted, New Market Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Atikur Rahman told The Daily Star this afternoon that he did not know of the incident. “Traffic department deals with such matter.”
