Raid at Fu Wang Club: 3 held; cigarettes, alcohol seized
Rapid Action Battalion arrested three salespersons during the raid at the capital’s Fu Wang Club early today and also seized huge amounts of cigarettes and alcohol.
The trio were held on charge of selling alcohol beyond the permissible limit of the licence, Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan, senior assistant director (media wing) of Rab, told The Daily Star following a briefing in the morning.
Huge amounts of illegally imported cigarettes and cans of beer and alcohol beyond the permissible limit were seized during the raid, he added.
Meanwhile, Col Sarowar Bin Kashem, the director of Rab’s legal and media wing, said nearly three percent of the alcohol bottles at the club were illegally stored and the club could not show the relevant papers for the extra alcohol.
Around 2,000 bottles of alcohol, 10,000 cans of “Hunter” beer and Tk 7 lakh were seized from their possession.
The detained employees were identified as Jahid, Xavier, and Chanchal, the Rab official said at the briefing today.
Rab headquarters and Rab-1 jointly raided the capital’s Fu Wang Club early today as part of the ongoing raid against casinos and clubs in the city that began on September 18.
