Girl gang-raped in Dhaka
A female worker was gang-raped last night allegedly by one of her colleagues and his two cohorts in Uttara area of Dhaka.
The girl aged around 17 was a security guard of a super shop at Rajlaxmi Complex in Uttara.
The victim's brother told The Daily Star that the girl, who had been working with the shop for around one month, was forcibly taken to an under construction building around 8:30pm when she was returning to her residence from the workplace.
The trio threatened her with death and raped the girl by turns on the first floor of the building. Around two hours later, the girl jumped off the building and reached her residence with the help of a rickshaw-puller, he said.
The incident comes around two months after a Garo saleswoman was gang-raped on a moving microbus while returning home from her workplace in the capital, triggering a widespread public outcry.
Thursday's victim, who passed the SSC exam this year, came to Dhaka from Barisal two months ago in search of a job. She has been staying at her maternal uncle's residence at Sector-12 in Uttara.
The family took her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 3:00am today. Now she is undergoing treatment at the one-stop crisis centre of the hospital.
Bilkis Begum, coordinator of the centre, told The Daily Star that in preliminary tests they found evidence of rape.
She will go under forensic test tomorrow, she said.
On information, officials from Uttara Paschim Police Station recorded victim's statement at the hospital.
Biplob Kishore Shil, inspector (investigation) of the station, said the law enforcers are trying to arrest the rapists after the girl told police that three youths sexually abused her.
Meanwhile, Rab-1 detained a youth named Arif for interrogation, confirmed Lt Col Tuhin Mohammad Masud, commanding officer of the battalion.
A process is underway to file a case.
