HC scraps ex-SC judge’s bail
The High court today scraped its earlier order that granted anticipatory bail to former Supreme Court judge Justice Md Joynul in connection with a notice issued in 2010 by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) seeking his bank statements.
The court said Justice Md Joynul Abedin cannot get anticipatory bail as there is no specific case against him.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam also rejected the petition filed by Justice Md Joynul Abedin seeking bail in connection with the ACC notice.
On July 10 last year, the same bench granted anticipatory bail to Justice Joynul although there was no specific allegation against him, said ACC lawyer Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan and Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik.
The ACC in July 2010 sent a notice to the former apex court judge seeking his bank statements.
Justice Joynul had led the one-man judicial enquiry into the August 21, 2004 grenade attack on Awami League rally in Dhaka. His probe found “foreign enemy link” with the attack.
