'Fictitious Cases': HC order on writ petition Sunday
The High Court will pass an order on Sunday on a writ petition filed over “fictitious cases” against activists of BNP and other political parties across the country, particularly in Dhaka.
The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder yesterday fixed the date after hearing arguments from petitioner's counsel Advocate Khandaker Mahbub Hossain and Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik on earlier dates.
The deputy attorney general told the court that Attorney General Mahbubey Alam, who was scheduled to place arguments yesterday, could not attend the hearing due to personal reasons.
Justice Talukder said his court will pass order on Sunday on the petition, even if the attorney general does not place arguments on that day.
The HC bench on Tuesday started hearing on the petition submitted on September 23.
Three pro-BNP lawyers, who are also accused in the cases, filed the petition, seeking the court's directives on the government to form a probe body to investigate the legitimacy of some "4,000 cases".
The pro-BNP lawyers are Khandker Mahbub, Nitai Roy Chowdhury and Sanaullah Mia.
Earlier, on October 9, a two-judge HC bench delivered a split order on the same petition.
