Green Line Paribahan cannot sell tickets on April 11 if it does not pay Tk 50 lakh compensation to Russel Sharker by April 10, the High Court passed the order today.

The court also fixed April 10 for passing further order on the issue after Green Line Paribahan General Manger Abdus Sattar appeared before it around 2:00pm as per its order passed earlier in the day.

Russel, 26, a car driver of a power company, lost his leg from below the knee after he was knocked down by a bus of Greenline Paribahan near Mayor Hanif Flyover at the capital's Dholaipar on April 4 last year.

The general manager today told the court that the company could not pay the amount to Russel as the Green Line Paribahan owner, Md Alauddin, went to India on March 21 for his treatment and will return on April 9.

The HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Quader further said they will order to confiscate the Green Line Paribahan’s buses if the company does not pay the money to Russel by April 10.

Earlier in the day, the HC summoned the general manager to appear before it at 2:00pm today to place his explanation why the company did not pay Tk 50 lakh to Russel in line with its earlier order.

The High Court on March 31 directed Green Line Paribahan to pay Tk 50 lakh by Wednesday (April 3, 2019) to Russel and also asked the company authorities to inform it by Thursday (today) after complying with the order.

Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court upheld the HC's March 12 order that asked Green Line Paribahan to pay Tk 50 lakh to Russel Sarker for his treatment.

On the day of accident, the bus driver had an altercation with him and ran Russel over as he chased down the bus for rear-ending his car.

Russel was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with the severed leg and later transferred to Apollo Hospitals from Square Hospitals.

Advocate Umme Kulsum Smrity, on May 13 last year, filed the writ petition with the HC seeking necessary order on the authorities concerned to compensate Russel for his damaged leg and to stop reckless driving.

Following the petition, the HC issued a rule on May 14, asking authorities concerned of Green Line Paribahan and the government to explain why they would not be ordered to pay Tk 1 crore compensation to Russel Sarker.
