'It's painful when president referred for all issues’

The Supreme Court today said it is painful when the government refers to the president for all issues.

“We feel pain when the government refers to the president for issuing the gazette notification on the rules determining the discipline and conduct of lower court judges,” a seven-member bench of Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha said today.

The apex court came up with the comment when Attorney General Mahbubey Alam moved a petition seeking time for issuing the gazette notification.

Govt gets time till May 8 for Gazette

The AG sought time saying that the rules are up to the president now and the government will issue the gazette notification after the president gives approval.

Later, the court, which was hearing the Masdar Hossain case known as judiciary separation case, granted the time to the government till May 8 for publishing the gazette notification.

The court said it will not accept any excuse from the government further for issuing the gazette notification.

The court also asked the AG not to refer the president regarding this issue.

The apex court fixed May 8 for further hearing on this issue.
