Man dies being hit by fallen tree branch in Dhaka

A man died and another was injured as a branch of a tree fell on them in Dhaka’s Ramna Park this afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Farooque Hossain, 50, a rickshaw puller, and the injured is his grandson Hazrat Ali, 14, a worker at a CNG-run auto-rickshaw workshop. They were residents of Dhaka’s Madhubagh area.

They were sitting under a black plum tree in the park this afternoon, Sub- Inspector (SI) Bacchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost, said, adding that a branch of the tree fell on them when another man was collecting fruit from it.

Critically injured, they were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared Farooque dead, the police official said.

Hazrat was undergoing treatment at the hospital, he added.
