Murder accused killed in ‘gunfight’ with Rab

An accused in a case filed for killing a girl and slicing her in seven pieces in Motijheel earlier this month was killed in a “gunfight” with the elite force in Dhaka early today.

The man has been identified as Mobarak Ullah Monti, 45.

He was killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Titipara area of Shahjahanpur around 3:00am, according to Masud, a sub-inspector of Shahjahanpur Police Station.

“Monti is the prime accused of a murder case involving the killing of a girl in Motijheel area,” said Saiful Islam, Rab-3 operation officer and an assistant superintendent of police.

The girl’s body was found in seven pieces on March 10 earlier this month.

Receiving intelligence that Monti along with some of his associates were hiding in the area, a Rab-3 team cracked down on a house in Titipara area, Saiful Islam said.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, they opened fire, he said. “Law enforcers were compelled to fire back. Monti came in the line of fire. His associates fled.”

One pistol, two rounds of bullets and a magazine were recovered from the spot. The body has been kept at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
