Mother, son killed in Savar water tank collapse
A woman and her son were killed and one of their family members injured when a portion of a concrete water tank fell on them at Ashulia in Savar early today.
The deceased were identified as Selima Khatun, 40, hailing from Shaghata upazila of Gaibandha, and her son, Seam, 9, reports our correspondent quoting police.
Selima, worked at a garments factory in Ashulia and used to live in a rented room with her son in Norshinghopur area.
A wall of a concrete water tank on the roof of a house adjacent to Selina’s room suddenly collapsed around 5:30am, Javed Masud, inspector (investigation) of Ashulia Police Station told our Savar correspondent.
“The collapsed parts of the concrete tank fell on the room while Selima, her son, and her brother Tutul Miah were inside the room,” the inspector added.
The injured Tutul Miah, 35, was taken to National Institute of Traumatology & Orthopaedic Rehabilitiation (Nitor) in Dhaka.
Police recovered the bodies and sent those to Dhaka Medical College (DMC) for autopsy.
