Newborn girl rescued from Mohammadpur dustbin
A newborn girl was rescued from a dustbin in Mohammadpur area of Dhaka early morning.
Cleaners spotted the neonate at a dustbin near Janata Housing around 5:30 am and informed police, Jamal Uddin Mir, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station, told The Daily Star.
On information, a team from the police station rescued her and took her to a nearby clinic, he said.
Later, she was referred to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) around 2:15 pm for better treatment, DMCH sources said.
The baby, weighing three kg, is now undergoing treatment at neonatal ward and her condition is stable, DMCH’S Director Brigadier General AKM Nasiruddin said adding that the baby is being orally fed.
OC Jamal Uddin Mir further said, they will collect CCTV camera footage to identify who dumped her into the dustbin.”
In association with Social Service Department and police, the baby will be shifted to Chhotomoni Nibash, a government-run child care centre in the capital's Azimpur, tomorrow, he added.
