18th convocation of EWU held

AKM Mozammel Huq, lawmaker and minister of Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, has advised fresh graduates that moralities, responsibilities, skills, professionalism, and patriotism should be the guiding spirits of their future. 
 
The minister gave the advice while attending the 18th Convocation of East West University (EWU), as the representative of the President of Bangladesh, according to a press release from the university.  
 
The event took place at EWU campus, Aftabnagar, Dhaka on 30 January 2019, Wednesday. A total of 2073 undergraduate and graduate students were conferred degrees and eight of them were awarded gold medals for outstanding results. 
 
The Convocation Speaker, Professor Dr Yasmeen Haque, Department of Physics, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Sylhet, said in her speech that Bangladesh is now turning into a country with the capacity to meet all expectations. 
 
Universities here are not only distributing knowledge to students but also creating new sectors of knowledge, she said. She also referred to recent research conducted in SUST in case of identifying cancer. 
 
Professor Abdul Mannan, chairman of University Grants Commission of Bangladesh was the special guest on the occasion. Beside him, Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, chairperson of the Board of Trustees of EWU and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank, and Professor Dr MM Shahidul Hassan, vice chancellor of EWU, also gave invaluable speeches. 
 
They said that Bangladesh would be able to reach its expected economic, social and cultural goals through the new generations’ power of invention.
 
The members of the Board of Trustees, the pro-vice chancellor, the treasurer, deans, chairpersons of the departments, teachers, staff, graduating students and their parents attended the convocation ceremony. 
 
The students expressed their delight upon receiving their certificates in due time and completing their academic venture.
