2 crushed under train during Tabligh clash
Two people died as a train ran them over in Khilkhet area of Dhaka today while they were walking on the rail tracks to avoid road blockade during factional clash of Tabligh-Jamaat men.
The deceased were identified as Ishak Mia, 25, and Atik Hosen Chowdhury, 43, Rezaul Islam, sub-inspector of Dhaka Railway Police Station, told The Daily Star.
The Netrokona-bound train Mohanganj Express ran them over around 2:50pm, he said.
Both of the victims used work as marketing officials for separate companies and were heading towards Uttara for work purposes.
Earlier in the day, a man was killed and more than 150 people were injured in the clash between two factions of Tabligh Jamaat over establishing supremacy on Ijtema ground on the bank of the river Turag.
A section of Tabligh Jamaat blocked the Airport Road for over six hours since 9:00am during the clash, causing a huge traffic gridlock on the road and its adjacent areas in the capital.
Traffic movement on Airport Road returned to normal around 3:45pm following requests by law enforcers.
