2 held with 2,850 yaba tablets at Dhaka airport

Airport Armed Police claimed to have detained two people with 2,850 pieces of yaba tablets from the domestic terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka this evening.

The arrestees Md Jamiul Islam, 21, and Md Arif Shikder, 23, are students of Faridpur Polytechnical College.

They brought the tablets from Cox’s Bazar on a flight of Novoair, Alamgir Hosen, additional police superintendent of Airport Armed Police (Operations and Media) said quoting the arrestees.

Upon suspicion, police searched them in the parking area near the domestic terminal around 2:30 pm and recovered the yaba tablets from the possession of Jamiul, the police official said.

Arif was helping Jamiul by giving him Tk 40,000, he added.

The estimated price of seized yaba tablets is around Tk 14 lakh, he added.

In primary interrogation, the arrestees said they collected the tablets from one Babu of Teknaf upazila. A man named Shahin of Faridpur engaged them to bring the tablets to Dhaka, the police official further said.
