3 cops suspended in Ctg for filing ‘false’ case

Defiant mob beats extortionist dead

Three police officials including the officer-in-charge of Bayezid Police Station in Chittagong city have been suspended for filing a false case against an oil company "misusing power".

The police officials are: Prodip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge; and Sujon Biswas and Ekramul Haque, sub-inspectors of the police stations, reports our Chittagong correspondent quoting AKM Shahidur Rahman, additional commission of Chittagong Metropolitan Police.

Bayezid police seized a lorry carrying 9,000 litres oil of Super Refinery Group on August 4 and later SI Sujon filed a case implicating 10 officials of the company under the Special Power Act.

The oil company denied the allegation and later sent a letter to the inspector general of police at the police headquarters in Dhaka saying that police filed the case only for harassing its officials.

Based on the letter, a team of police has been assigned to investigate the matter, the police official said.

The team later submitted a probe report to the police headquarters finding evidence against OC Prodip, SIs Sujon and Ekramul.

According to the probe report, the three policemen misused their power and filed the case for harassing the company.

Prodip was suspended by the police headquarters while Sujon and Ekramul were suspended by the Chittagong Metropolitan Police.
