3 held with 2.5kgs gold at Dhaka airport
A preventive team of Dhaka Customs House detained three passengers with 2.560 kilogramme of gold and 10 mobile phone sets at the domestic terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka today.
The three passengers -- Aflatun Akhter Mukti, Konika Hossain Jhunu and Saiful Islam -- reached Dhaka airport by a flight “BG222” of Biman Bangladesh Airlines from Sylhet around 11:30am, Sazzad Hossain, assistant commissioner of the customs, told The Daily Star.
On secret information, the preventive team challenged the trio at the domestic terminal and recovered the gold and mobile sets after searching them, he said.
The market prices of the gold and mobile sets are Tk 1.33 crore, said Sazzad.
During the primary interrogation, the detainees told the preventive team that a man, who came to Sylhet airport from Muscat of Oman by the same flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, gave the consignment of gold and mobile to them to hand those over to someone in Dhaka, added the customs official.
