3 injured in Chattogram train collision
Two police officers and a loco master were injured when a Chittagong University (CU) shuttle train and a goods-laden train collided at Forest Gate point in Chattogram's Sholoshohor area this morning.
The injured police officers -- Mizanur Rahman (24) and Mohammad Sharif (23) -- and Sheikh Abdul Hel Baki (55), loco master of the goods-laden train, have been taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
The city-bound shuttle train that set off from the university collided with the other train, which was heading for Dohazari from the city, around 11:00am, said Atiar Rahman, a sub-inspector (SI) of Government Railway Police (GRP).
One compartment of the goods-laden train was damaged in the accident, the SI said.
Train movement on the Chattogram city-CU route remained suspended following the collision, the police official added.
Bangladesh Railway East Zone has formed a four-member probe committee, which will be headed by the divisional traffic officer.
A glitch in the railway signaling system can be a reason behind the accident, said Officer-in-Charge of Chattogram GRP Mostafiz Bhuiyan.
