4 held with 56 gold bars in Kalyanpur

Law enforcers today arrested four alleged members of an international smuggling gang with 56 gold bars from Dhaka's Kalyanpur area.

A team of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) made the arrests this afternoon, Saiful Malik, operations officer of Rab-2, told The Daily Star.  

The arrestees were identified as Md Liton Hosen, 30, Md Aminur Rahman, 23, Md Shah Alam, alias Sheltu, 32 and Ayesha Begum, 40.

The gold bars weighed around seven kilogrammes in total, the Rab official said.

The gold bars were brought into the country to be smuggled into neighboring countries, Rab sources said.
