587 women become country's first ever licensed midwives
Around 587 women passed the licensing exam at Dhaka Nursing College, becoming the first ever midwives to have graduated from the newly established three-year direct entry diploma education in midwifery in Bangladesh.
The newly licensed midwives will be posted at Upazila Health complexes and Union Family Welfare Centers around the country.
Since its inception, the education programme -- for the introduction of a new cadre of professional diploma-level midwives -- has been supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
