Abrar murder: Decision on charge acceptance Jan 21

A Dhaka court has fixed January 21 for the decision on charge acceptance against 25 accused in connection with the killing of Buet student Abrar Fahad in October last year.

Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court of Dhaka set the date after getting the case records.

Earlier on January 13, the trial proceeding of the murder case was shifted to the Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge’s Court from the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court.

Meanwhile, Morshed Amartya Islam, a fugitive accused in the case, surrendered before the court on Sunday, and the court sent him to jail.

On December 3, a Dhaka court ordered to confiscate the property of the four fugitive accused in the case. The other fugitives are Morsheduzzaman Jishan, Mustafa Rafid and Ehtashamul Rabbi Tanim, students of Buet.

On January 5, the court asked police to publish ads in newspapers asking the four to appear before it. Police published the ads and submitted those to the court on January 13.

On November 18, the court accepted charge-sheet against 25 accused and issued a warrant for the arrest of the four fugitives in the case.

On October 7, Abrar, a second-year student of electrical and electronics engineering department of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, was beaten to death by a group of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men at the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall in Dhaka.
