Abrar murder: Zion gives confessional statement
Meftahul Islam Zion, who is one of the accused of Abrar Fahad murder case, today confessed to a magistrate that he saw his accomplices were beating the victim inside a room of Sher-e-Bangla Hall on October 6.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sarafuzzaman Ansary recorded Zion’s confessional statement under section 164 of the CrPC after Detective Branch Inspector Md Wahiduzzaman, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case produced him before his chamber.
But details of the confessional statement could not be known immediately.
Meftahul Islam Zion, a 15th batch student of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Department and also sports secretary of Buet unit BCL was arrested on October 7, day after the murder of Abrar Fahad.
After recording the statement, the magistrate sent him to Keraniganj Central Jail.
The Daily Star came to know the development from the forwarding report placed by the IO before the court this afternoon.
On October 8, a Dhaka court granted a five-day remand for each of the 10 BCL men including Zion in connection with the murder case of Abrar after police produced the accused seeking ten days remand for each.
Later, Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yeasir Ahsan Chowdhury of Dhaka court granted the remand.
Abrar, a second-year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering department of Buet, died after he was brutally beaten allegedly by some Chhatra League men at a room of the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall.
Later, Abrar’s father Barkat Ullah filed a murder case against 19 with the Chawkbazar Police Station.
The incident triggered a firestorm of protest that dished out all most all educational institutes across the country. Apart from this, many people took to the social media demanding justice for Abrar Fahad.
Law enforcers suspect, Abrar was attacked because of one of his recent Facebook posts, which seemed critical of some recent deals with India.
