A Dhaka court today placed Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Shamim Reza of Bangshal Police Station on a five-day remand in a case filed over shooting cable TV operator staff in the city's Khilgaon area.

Metropolitan Magistrate Pranab Kumer Hui granted the remand after Anwar Hossain, police inspector (investigation) of Khilgaon Police Station, produced the ASI before the court with a 10-day remand prayer, said Kazi Mainul Islam, officer-in-charge of Khilgaon Police Station.

Ballistic test has found that the pistol seized from ASI Shamim was the same weapon used to shoot the cable TV man, the OC also said.

Earlier, Al Amin, 26, an employee of Dhaka East Cable Vision, was hit by a bullet when ASI Shamim opened fire on him yesterday during an altercation over the payment of monthly service charge.

Later, police arrested the policeman from Bangshal area in a case filed over attempt to murder and seized a pistol and a bullet from his possession.

ASI Shamim has been suspended by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) following the incident.
