Avijit's wife Bonya speaks up (video)

Rafida Ahmed Bonya, wife of slain blogger Avijit Roy, conveyed her concerns on the murdered blogger Ananta Bijoy Das who was hacked to death today.

Through a video posted in 'American Atheist', a Facebook page, she raised the issue of religious fundamentalism in the country and the growing attacks on atheist bloggers.

Rafida Ahmed Bonya's message to American Atheists

Today, Reuters published the first-ever extended interview with Rafida Ahmed, the widow of Bangladeshi-American atheist activist and author Avijit Roy, following the attack from Islamist extremists that took her husband's life on February 26 of this year. She was also injured in the attack, suffering four wounds on her head from a machete, and losing her thumb, while trying to protect her husband. American Atheists has something special just for our social media followers: Ms. Ahmed has recorded a video for American Atheists, which we showed at our 2015 National Convention in Memphis, and which we are making freely available online for the first time to accompany this interview. You can read the interview here: http://www.religionnews.com/2015/05/11/widow-of-slain-atheist-blogger-lashes-out-at-bangladesh/Let us know your thoughts about the video in the comments below, and please share.

"Bangladesh was not always like this, it's a relatively new country which was based on secularism, but now religious fundamentalism has taken a deep root", said Bonya, the Bangladeshi-American secular activist and blogger.

Fundamentalists are scared of words, she said, and they are gruesomely scared of people speaking out.

She questioned the role and silence of the country's government on such repeated incidences.

Das was an organiser of the local Gonojagoron Mancha and blogger of the Mukto-Mona blog site, first online platform in Bangla moderated by Avijit Roy. He was hacked to death by four unidentified assailants.
