BCL suspends three
Bangladesh Chhatra League's (BCL) Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit yesterday claimed to have suspended three activists accused of verbally abusing and attempting to assault a history department teacher on January 21.
Meanwhile, Nationalist Teachers' Forum issued a press release demanding, among others, exemplary punishment for the accused and security for those of JU and visitors.
The trio has replied to a JU notice providing their version of the incident, Proctor Prof Tapal Kumar Saha told The Daily Star, adding that details would be revealed later.
On being contacted, JU BCL President Mahmusur Rahman Jony said the suspension would be in effect till an investigation report of the JU authorities was made public. However, no BCL statement was issued in this regard.
Prof Mozahidul Islam, in a complaint submitted at the proctor's office on Saturday, said the three acted up when he told them to stop manhandling a young woman and beating a young man accompanying her at Chaurangy area of the campus.
