Amir Khasru gets ad-interim bail
The High Court (HC) yesterday granted ad-interim bail to BNP leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury for one year in a case filed over section 57 of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.
The bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Zafar Ahmed passed the order following a bail petition by the BNP leader.
The bench also issued a rule asking the government why Amir Khasru should not be granted regular bail in the case filed in Chattogram on August 4.
There is no legal bar for him to get released from jail following the HC order, Advocate Sagir Hossain Leon said.
The BNP leader was sued by Jakaria Dastagir, general secretary of Chattogram City Chhatra League after a phone conversation allegedly between Amir Khasru and a BNP activist was leaked.
In the statement, the complainant accused Khasru of hatching a conspiracy to destabilise the country and instigate anarchy through subversive activities.
Advocate Zainul Abedin appeared for Amir Khasru.
