Case filed over attempt to shoot Exim Bank top officials
Exim Bank authorities have filed a case with Gulshan Police Station against the managing director of Sikder Group of Companies for allegedly torturing two top officials of the bank and attempting to shoot them.
The accused in the case are: Sikder Group MD Ron Haque Sikder and his brother Dipu Haque Sikder.
The case was filed on May 19, said SM Kamruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station.
According to the case statement, Ron and Dipu on May 7 held Exim Bank MD Muhammad Haider Ali Mia and Additional MD Muhammad Firoz Hossain hostage in an apartment and tried to shoot them. They also tortured the two Exim Bank officials and let them go after taking their signatures on a blank page, the OC said.
The incident took place when the two officials went to visit the group's mortgage assets which they offered as collateral for a Tk 500 crore loan they sought from the bank, the OC said quoting the case statement.
The bank officials cited the value of the asset as lower than what the group's MD claimed, and after that, they were forced inside an apartment, where they were tortured and shot at, threatened with death, and finally let go after they signed on a blank page, OC Kamruzzaman told The Daily Star.
The accused in the case – Ron Haque and Dipu Haque – have been absconding after the incident, he added.
