Cinematographer Mahfuzur Rahman passes away
Noted cinematographer Mahfuzur Rahman Khan passed away at a hospital in Dhaka early today. He was 70.
Mahfuzur, who was undergoing treatment at United Hospital in the capital, breathed his last around 12:30am, his family members told The Daily Star.
Mahfuzur, the 10-time National Film Award winner, fell sick on November 30 and was admitted to Green Life Hospital from where he was shifted to the United Hospital after his health condition deteriorated.
He had been suffering from diabetes and lung disease for long, they said.
The namaz-e-janaza of Mahfuzur Rahman will be held at Chawkbazar Shahi Mosque after Juma prayers today.
Later he will be taken to Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) where his well-wishers and colleagues are waiting to pay their last respects.
The cinematographer will be buried at Azimpur graveyard in Dhaka city.
His best works include Obhijan, Sohojatri, Poka Makorer Ghor Bosoti, Srabon Megher Din, Dui Duari, Hajar Bachhor Dhore, Amar Ache Jol, Ghetuputra Komola and Padma Patar Jol.
BSS adds: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of the National Film Award-winning cinematographer.
In a condolence message, the premier prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
