CRP to donate prosthetic leg to Russell

Centre for Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) has announced that they will donate a prosthetic leg to Russell Sarkar, who lost a leg after a bus ran him over in April 2018.

Russel went to CRP yesterday morning and the primary assessment tests for attaching the artificial leg were completed.

Initially, a Swiss-made leg will be set, which will later be replaced by a German-made prosthetic, said Mohammad Shafiq, head of CRP's prosthetic and orthotics Department.

“The process will take four weeks,” he said, adding that doctors will start the full infusion process on Saturday.

Md Shafiq-ul Islam, executive director of CRP, said they are hopeful that Russell will be able to move at ease after the addition of the artificial leg.

He told The Daily Star that CRP will bear the cost of this procedure.

Talking to The Daily Star, Russell also expressed optimism that movement will be easier with the prosthetic leg.

Russell, 26, was knocked down by a Green Line bus near Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover in the capital's Dholaipar on April 28 last year.

The incident happened after an altercation broke out between Russell and the bus driver over rear-ending his car. As Russel chased down the bus, the bus driver ran him over.

Green Line Paribahan yesterday handed Tk 5 lakh to Russell following an HC order and is expected to pay another Tk 45 lakh in 30 days.
