CU BCL committee suspended over clashes

Against the backdrop of clashes between the president and general secretary's followers, Bangladesh Chhatra League's (BCL) two-member Chittagong University (CU) unit was suspended yesterday by the pro-ruling party student organisation's central committee for "violating organisational discipline".

Meanwhile, two cases were filed over the February 8 clash which left at least six BCL activists injured. Another clash the next day was followed by vandalism in four rooms of Suhrawardy Hall.

Moreover, a four-member committee led by Prof Jashim Uddin of the Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences was formed by CU and asked to complete investigations by seven working days.

BCL President Saifur Rahman Sohag told The Daily Star that factions of CU BCL President Mohammad Alamgir Tipu and General Secretary Fazly Rabby Sujan were also served notices asking to explain in three working days "why the clashes could not be avoided".
