Cleaning of animal waste in Dhaka city corporations continues

The authorities of Dhaka North and South city corporations have started cleaning more than 30,000 tonnes waste of sacrificial animals in the capital.

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon inaugurated the activities of removing animal wastes at Kawartek cattle market near Dholaikhal this afternoon.

Meanwhile, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam also inaugurated removal of animal wastes at Uttara-15.

At the inauguration of the wastes management activities, DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon declared to remove the animal wastes within 24 hours, Khandaker Milladul Islam, additional chief waste management officer of the DSCC, told The Daily Star.

To meet the deadline, the DSCC has employed around 10,000 workers including regular cleaners, he said.

"Last year, we cleaned 19,090 tonnes of animal wastes. But this year, we have estimated that it will be about 20,000 tonnes," he added.

When contacted, DNCC Executive Engineer (Disposal) SM Shafiqur Rahman said, "We've already transported more than 2,000 tonnes wastes to a landfill".

"Our target is to clean the city in earliest possible time," he added.
