DU teacher relieved over Ducsu polls rigging
A Dhaka University teacher has been temporarily relieved of her duties over rigging in Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) election.
Shabnam Jahan, who was earlier removed as Kuwait Maitree hall’s provost over the issue, was temporarily relieved in an emergency decision last night.
The university’s syndicate, the institution’s highest policy-making body, took the decision with Vice Chancellor Prof Akhteruzzaman in the chair.
A syndicate member sought anonymity to say that Shabnam Jahan, a faculty at the Faculty of Business, was found involved in the incident of vote rigging.
Meanwhile, a five-member body has been formed to investigate further into the incident of vote rigging, reports our campus correspondent.
The committee will be headed by supernumerary Professor Khondoker Bazlul Hoque.
Voting at the girls’ hall was suspended around 9:30am on March 11 after a stash of marked ballots in favour of Bangladesh Chhatra League’s panel was discovered by the female students.
Following the incident, the hall’s provost Shabnam Jahan was removed instantly and replaced by Prof Mahbuba Nasrin of disaster management and vulnerability studies.
