Tanbir Hasan Shaikat, a member of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu), today gave a 15-day deadline to the university authorities to solve accommodation problems at the dormitories.

He also threatened that if the authorities fail to mitigate the ongoing accommodation crisis within the deadline, fresher students will start to stay at the VC’s residence.

He made the announcement this afternoon while addressing a rally under the banner of ‘DU General Students’ held at the base of Raju Memorial Sculpture on the campus.

The university authorities should enrol students only after solving the accommodation crisis, said Tanbir, also a student of Theatre and Performance Studies Department.

He also urged the authorities to ensure proper environment for the fresh students for their study and sleep.

“I have submitted a proposal to the VC to solve the dormitory (Gonoroom) crisis but he did not pay any heed to it except assurance,” Tanbir said.

Tanbir also alleged that ruling party’s student wing always want to keep a culture of dormitories for their interest and make those slave-making factories.

“We will not tolerate this culture anymore”, he added.

Earlier, Tanbir left his own residential hall room empty and started staying with the first year students at a dormitory of Kabi Jasim Uddin Hall.
