EC investigates electoral code violation allegation against Taposh
The Election Commission is investigating the allegation of breaking electoral rules brought against Awami League nominated mayoral aspirant Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh to Dhaka South City Corporation elections.
A team of the commission is now engaged in conducting investigation into the allegation, Abdul Baten, returning officer of the DSCC elections said this while briefing journalists at his office today.
BNP mayoral candidate of the same electoral area Ishraque Hossain lodged a written complaint with the returning office seeking legal step against AL candidate Taposh for breaking the electoral rules.
In the allegation, Ishraque said Taposh pasted colourful posters and hung several banners at different points across Jhigatala and Motijheel area on January 5.
By doing so, Taposh has violated the electoral code of conduct before starting the election campaign, Ishraque said in the complaint.
Ishraque also called upon the the returning officer to create a level playing field for all candidates taking legal action against Taposh.
In response to the call, Baten said the commission has asked respective executive magistrate to take the allegation into his account for legal step.
