Ekushey February: CCTVs all around Shaheed Minar
Authorities this year will install close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras from Shahbagh to the Central Shaheed Minar premises to scrutinise the movement of people on the occasion of Ekushey February.
Also four phases of security measures in the adjacent areas of Shaheed Minar will be taken to ensure public safety, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mohammad Asaduzzaman Miah.
He was addressing a press briefing at the DMP media centre on the occasion of marking the International Mother Language Day.
He said that the commoners will be allowed to enter the Shaheed Minar premises through Palasi to pay homage and exit through Chankharpool and Doyel Chattar from 12:45am.
All the VVIPs and VIPs will pay their respects by this time from 12:00am, he added.
Regarding BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's homage, Asaduzzaman said, "No other except the VVIPs and VIPs will be allowed to enter the Shaheed Minar premises using alternative routes like them by this time."
But some other important persons can enter through Doyel Chattar route for security purposes, he said, without naming anyone.
Vehicular movement will be controlled from 7:00pm of February 20 to 2:00pm of February 21, he added. Cars carrying Dhaka University logos will have to use a fixed route, the DMP commissioner said.
