The daughter-in-law of Jatiya Party lawmaker Kazi Feroz Rashid was hospitalised last night with a bullet wound in her abdomen.

Marina Shoyeb is now kept at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Lab Aid hospital in Dhanmondi of Dhaka, police said quoting doctors.

Doctors at the hospital operated on her immediately after she was brought in around 10:30pm, Saifur Rahman Lenin, assistant general manager (brand and communications) of the hospital, told The Daily Star today.

Initial damages on her body due to the wound have been repaired but the bullet is still inside her body, the hospital official said.

Doctors are not saying that the patient is out of danger but they have to observe her for another 48 hours, he added.

The patient regained her consciousness this morning, Lenin said.

Meanwhile, quoting Marina's family members police said that she might have shot herself.

The JP lawmaker’s wife, Marina's daughter and son, and a house help were present in the house when the incident took place around 9:00pm, Parvez Islam, inspector investigation of Dhanmondi Police Station, told The Daily Star earlier in the day.

Law enforcers are investigating the matter with help of CCTV footage, the police official said.

Members of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have collected fingerprint samples found on the firearms belonging to the son of JP lawmaker, he said.
