Imam held for 'sexually abusing' boy in Mohammadpur

An imam of a mosque in Mohammadpur of Dhaka was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a fourteen-year-old boy, police said today.

The arrestee is Abdullah Al Hadi, the Imam of Mohammadpur Shahid Park Jame Mosque.

Following a complaint filed by the victim, the Imam was arrested from the mosque last evening said Abdul Latif, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mohammadpur Police Station.

According to the complaint, the victim, a hafiz of a madrasa in capital’s Shamoli, went to the imam yesterday morning to seek his help in bearing the expenditure for his mother’s treatment.

The imam took the boy to his room and abused him sexually, according to the compliant.
