The 10th parliament goes into its seventh session on September 1.

President Abdul Hamid convened the session exercising his power bestowed upon him by article 72 (1) of the Constitution, a release of the parliament secretariat said today.

The House is set to sit at 5:00pm on the first day of the coming month.

Before the House goes into session, the business advisory committee of parliament will sit in a meeting with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair to fix duration and businesses of the session.

Sources at the parliament secretariat said the session is likely to continue for a short period of time.

According to the constitution, the president must convene a session by 60 days from the last sitting of the last session.

The budget session was prorogued on July 8.

The tenth parliament was formed through the January 5, 2014 one-sided election boycotted by the BNP-led 20-party alliance and most other political parties.

The maiden session of the 10th parliament took place between January 29 and April 10 last year.

This is the first time since the restoration of parliamentary democracy in 1991 that BNP has no participation in parliament either in treasury bench or in opposition.
